Once high blood pressure develops, it usually lasts a lifetime.
However, you can prevent and control high blood pressure by taking action.
So if you're an adult and your blood pressure is 140/90 mm Hg or above, you have hypertension - high blood pressure - and are at risk of developing heart disease and/or kidney disease and other medical problems. We recommend that you visit a health professional to check your blood pressure and learn how to manage it.
